With We Meet in Paradise, Belgian photographer Sander Buyck presents a contemplative visual study of the weathered martyr posters that shape the public environment across the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), particularly in the West Bank. During his repeated visits, Buyck encountered these fading portraits—bleached, torn and slowly disintegrating—and recognized in them both the imprint of ongoing political struggle and an unexpected poetic, painterly resonance.
His photographs focus on the moment where ideology begins to erode and vulnerability surfaces. By isolating and preserving these fragile images, Buyck reveals how conflict inscribes itself onto the everyday—onto walls, urban textures and collective memory. The work shifts between documentation and abstraction, transforming ephemeral street posters into quiet, enduring reflections on human presence, loss and resilience.
We Meet in Paradise invites viewers to look beyond the symbolic weight of martyrdom and to encounter the individuals whose stories persist in the traces time leaves behind.
